Rethinking Colorblindness

  • Deconstructing Privilege by Kim A. Case and Why Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show Mattered - and Why It Moved So Many Hispanics to Tears by Jose Gomez

Author Kim Case is pushing for color insight as a conceptual tool to help racial issues in society. She notes how color blindness is prevalent more recently, especially after Obama became president. She highlights how people find it easier to overlook race and therefore make it 'feel' like racism doesn't even really exist.

She describes color insight as a way to battle racism and to educate people on race in America. She sees it as a way to combat the shushing that occurs with colorblindness.

Both articles are talking about one thing: witnessing other cultures. We don't need to put one above the other, we just need to realize that there are more people out there with real and true lived experiences that aren't white people. Bad Bunny helped to validate and realize the experiences of so many hispanics in America.

We can benefit so much by just seeing, listening, and hearing the experiences of people from other cultures. There is a way to coexist.
